When two former Herndon residents became empty nesters, they decided to downsize and move to Arlington where they could take advantage of all that it has to offer: from the easy access to restaurants, culture, and museums to a walkable community. They found a 1925 two bedroom bungalow in Ashton Heights that was in the right location but in need of a lot of work.
After doing their research and interviewing several firms, the owners decided WINN design+build would be the best fit for them and their new home. They had the right combination of technical expertise, creative design, and craftsmanship.
Some of the project highlights include:
Retained and reintroduced historic architectural elements while bringing the finishes and fixtures into the 21st century.
New detached garage with electric-car charger.
Heart Pine flooring was salvaged and newly added.
On the inside, the WINN design+build team pulled out all the stops when they relocated the original kitchen to the other side of the house and replaced it with a laundry room. In addition to fully renovating three bathrooms, the whole-house renovation included a combination of both salvaged and new Heart Pine flooring. The home’s exterior was also completely renovated with an updated front porch, deck, roof and siding. An exterior garage was added and finally, the team did extensive landscaping and hardscaping.
